This is Ratanpur. Biltu lives here. There is a school and a big play ground in this village. Everyday Biltu goes to the school by walking. In the afternoon many boys come to the play ground. They play football, cricket and many games there. An earthen road goes up to the river bank. The river is flowing along the village.
Little Fish was small.
He had a small head
and he had a small body.
He had a small tail
and he had two small eyes.
But his eyes were bright and shiny,
and he had a brave little heart.
That farmer had a goat.
That goat was very old.
Old men become wise with many experiences.
That goat, also, gathered experiences. Old men sometimes grow beards— For beards show experience.
That goat also had a long beard.
A man had two dogs : Pepper, a hound trained to assist him in hunting, and Bubbles, a watchdog to guard his home. Every evening, the man gave both dogs equal portions from his catch. Pepper did not like this at all. One day he confronted Bubbles. “I work so hard with my master,” he said, “while you laze in the house all day and feast on the fruit of my hard work.”
A long time ago, a queen gave birth to a donkey. She told the king that she had been cursed by an evil witch. Everyone in the kingdom was shocked. The king was a kind man. He brought up the
donkey prince with love and care. He ordered for all the mirrors to be destroyed so that the prince could
not see his face.
Once a capseller was passing through a jungle on his way to the village market. He was tired because of the long journey. He sat down under a
shady tree to take rest and fell asleep. Some monkeys used to live on that tree. Finding the capseller asleep, they took away all the caps from his bag. When the capseller woke up, he found all
his caps missing from the bag. He looked up. He was surprised to find all the monkeys wearing his caps. In anger, the capseller threw stones at the monkeys. All the monkeys threw fruits back at him. When he saw that the monkeys were copying
him, the capseller thought of a plan. He threw his cap down. The monkeys, too, threw their caps down. The capseller happily collected all his caps and went away.
Raju walked into the little toy store and bought a story book about vampires, witches and werewolves. That night, Raju read the first story. It was about a vampire that sucked human blood. As soon as he put the book down after completing the story, he heard a scratching at his window. He looked up and saw an ash-faced man, with beetroot lips and two protruding dagger-like teeth staring at him. Raju screamed in terror. When his parents came running and went to check, the window was empty. There was no one. Next day, Raju read the second story about evil witches who locked up little boys. As he was going to bed, he looked up at the window. He could not believe his eyes.
Once a hungry fox was roaming in the forest in search of food. Soon, he saw a grapevine full of juicy grapes. He was very happy and looked at it with greedy eyes. He thought that after eating these grapes, he would be able to satisfy his hunger. But he was feeling very tired. He thought of resting for a while. After some time, he jumped up to grab the grapes, but unfortunately, they were hanging too high. After resting for a while, again, he tried to reach the grapes but failed.
Two rabbits sitting behind the bushes were watching the fox. Finally, the fox decided to give up and was about to leave, when one of the rabbits said, “Why don't you try once more?” “I don't think I want the grapes anymore. They
Manna was a poor but kind girl. One day, she was playing in the garden when she saw a little bird with a broken wing. Manna took it home and nursed it till it was strong enough to fly. The bird thanked Manna and gave her a seed. It said, "This is a magical seed. Plant it and see what happens!"
Manna planted the seed and watered it every day. In a few days, a huge watermelon grew out of it. When the watermelon was ripe, Manna cut it open. She found lots of pretty toys in it! She was overjoyed.
Manna's neighbour Merry was jealous to see so many new toys. She said to Manna, “You are so poor. Who gave you these toys? I am sure you stole them.”
A lamb was grazing along with a flock of sheep. She saw fresh green grass growing at the edge of the field. Leaving the flock behind, she went to graze on the sweet grass. A wicked wolf had been eyeing her. As soon as she came close enough, he pounced on her.
