One day Kanai's wife put some clay cooking pots in the sun to dry, and she said to Kanai: "See that no one breaks them." With some flattened rice, molasses and a stick, Kanai sat in the sun to keep vigil. On-again and off-again he ate some flattened rice and looked at the cooking pots to check whether they were invaded. Somehow some molasses got dropped on the cooking pots, and a lot of flies fluttered into them to lap it up. He soliloquized: "Okay! Invading the pots? Fine, just wait.” Then he swung into action, and he hit the flies in such a way that he not only killed the flies but also broke the pots into smithereens.
Counting the numbers, Kanai found out that he had killed seven flies, and he sat glum-faced and reserved, holding the stick in his armpit. Hearing the sound of the breaking of the cooking pots, his wife arrived at the spot with a broom in her hand and asked him: "What happened?" But there was no reply from Kanai; instead, he turned even more pensive and reticent whenever his wife pestered him with more questions. At last when his wife started overdoing the matter, in bloodshot eyes he said: "Count me before saying anything to me.

At last Kanai wore a headgear that he had made out of a piece of coarse cloth. Cutting a bamboo from a forest, he made a fat and a strong stick. Then wearing a Piran, fastening a piece of cloth around his waist, brandishing the stick and putting on shoes, he embarked on his journey to the King's palace to work there as a wrestler. While leaving the house, he told his wife: "I won't stay at your place any longer. I can kill seven in one go."
